You know that feeling that you are just SUPPOSED to do something, but it’s really hard, and you’re scared, but if you don’t do it you will always regret it? That’s how I’m feeling right now.
I’m also feeling a strange mix of fear, embarrassment, excitement, and more fear. Fear that I’m crazy for putting myself out there in such an honest way. A no makeup, unwashed hair kind of way. A 100 pounds overweight kind of way. Oh, yeah, and I write a blog called Eat Within Your Means. Add another 50 pounds of irony. No, wait. Don’t do that. Add another IMAGINARY 50 pounds of irony. Ok, that’s better.
This is my awkward way of letting you know that I’ve decided it’s high time that I lived out the tagline of this here blog with a renewed sense of mission and purpose. And so, without further ado, here is a video where I tell you about my newest adventure. Be advised that while the video is expertly edited by the most wonderful person I know (who, luckily, is my husband Michael), the production quality is, um…well, it’s bad. But seriously, if I let another day go by before hitting the record button, I was going to freak out. It just had to be done. So here it is.
I think the video pretty much says it all, but just for posterity’s sake, here’s a quick summary.
6 years ago, I started a blog called Less of Beth. Every day I posted about what I ate that day and how many calories I burned. 10 months later, I had lost 80 pounds. One wedding, two kids, and a whole lot of eating and couch-sitting went by, and I found myself right back where I started. This time I’m back to become Less of Beth – for good.
Top Ten Reasons Why I’m Doing Less of Beth

9. I want to sign up for Stitch Fix.
8. I want to wear the red “goal pants” I bought 6 years ago.
7. I want to walk up a flight of stairs without getting winded.
6. I want to set a good example for my kids.
5. I want to be a hot mom.
4. I want to do the dishes without breaking a sweat.
3. I want reduce the chance that I’ll get the diabeetus.
2. I want to wear a bikini on the beach in Maui next April.
1. I want to weigh less than a linebacker.
Current weight: 239.2 lbs
Goal weight: 140 lbs
Yes, I want to lose 100 pounds. How very cliché of me, I know. I didn’t plan it.
How will I do it? Basically, I’ll eat fewer calories than I burn each day. It’s a simple formula, and I know it’s not really that simple in practice, but I’ve done it before, and it’s my goal to build this formula into my lifestyle. Move more, eat a little less. Or move a LOT more so I can eat more, too. Each week I’ll post a video update with my results and my thoughts on how things went. Maybe I’ll even share some of my cooking tips with you too. Who knows? One thing’s for darn tootin’ sure, though – the videos will get better. Count on that. I might even put on some mascara next time.
If you made it through the video and are still reading this, you are my hero. Thank you for sticking with me and supporting this crazy ride. Since you are already here, will you go one step further and leave me a little note in the comments and tell me I’m not a lunatic for doing this? That will seriously make my day and very likely spur a walk with my kids to burn some calories. So thanks in advance for that.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go look up the weights of the lightest linebackers. How else will I know when I weigh less than one?
